Vaccination
RSV | Respiratory Syncytial Virus
What is VRS?
RSV usually causes a mild illness with symptoms similar to those of the common cold. Symptoms usually begin 2 to 8 days after exposure to the virus. Although RSV usually causes a mild illness, some people infected with RSV require hospitalization and, very rarely, admission to an intensive care unit.
There are two (2) types of vaccines for adults
- Arexvy®
- Abrysvo®
Abrysvo®
The efficacy of Abrysvo® against hospitalizations due to RSV in infants whose mothers were immunized during pregnancy was 67.7% during the first three months of life, with efficacy decreasing thereafter. If the vaccine is received after 36 weeks of pregnancy, the efficacy will be lower in protecting the infant.
The efficacy of Abrysvo® against diseases caused by RSV in people aged 60 years and older was 66.7% against first episodes with two or more symptoms and 85.7% against first episodes with three or more symptoms.
The target audience
Adults aged 60 and over
Abrysvo®
Pregnant women between the 32nd and 36th week of pregnancy, with the Abrysvo® vaccine regardless of the RSV season.

- Health measures
*By the age of 2, most children will have been infected with RSV. This virus is a common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia in infants and young children. Bronchiolitis is a common lung infection in infants and young children that causes inflammation and congestion of the small airways in the lungs.
