Be careful when swimming

Earwax can swell and block the ear canal, causing discomfort.

What does an ear wash involve?

Ear cleaning involves removing wax buildup from the ear canal by injecting water. This painless but sometimes uncomfortable technique is performed using safe equipment in accordance with industry standards.

This treatment usually provides a pleasant sensation after the plug has been removed.

How do you know if you need an ear cleaning?

  • Pressure in one or both ears
  • Partial or total hearing loss
  • Itching inside the ear
  • Impression of hearing dull noises
  • Feeling of blocked ears
  • Pain and/or discomfort
  • Ringing or buzzing in the ears
  • Dizziness or balance problems

Contraindications

Of ear cleaning

  • Ear disease
  • Signs of ear infection
  • Perforation of the eardrums
  • Presence of tympanic tubes
  • Received a blow to the ear or trauma

Prevention

Why does earwax build up in the ear?

Earwax flows out of the ear canal naturally. However, some people develop earwax plugs for various reasons:

  • Using cotton swabs (Q-tips) to clean the inside of the ears;
  • The presence of hair in the ear canal;
  • An external ear canal that is too narrow;
  • Wearing hearing aids or earplugs;
  • Since earwax is drier in older people, it does not flow easily out of the ear canal.

When earwax builds up, it is important to have it removed by a healthcare professional to avoid complications or hearing loss. Earwax buildup may or may not cause symptoms. Make an appointment now for a free checkup.

Preparation

Things to do before your appointment

  • Instill 4 to 5 drops of mineral oil into the affected ear for 3 to 4 days before your appointment. It is important to keep your head tilted for 5 to 10 minutes during application.

This preparation procedure is essential for optimal results and to protect the condition of the ear canal and eardrum during treatment.

Washing may be ineffective if not done properly, and treatment costs will apply even if it is not effective.

What not to do
The worst thing you can do is try to remove the plug yourself, use a cotton swab (Q-tips), or rub or press on your ear, as this could damage or even perforate your eardrum.
