Need to have a wound treated, a dressing changed, or stitches or staples removed?

The Accès Infirmières team follows medical protocols within the recommended timeframes to maximize healing and limit the risk of infection. Avoid long delays or waiting in the emergency room for fast, effective care, as our nurses have the expertise to treat all types of wounds.

At Accès Infirmières, if you or your child is injured, the situation is quickly taken care of, and most open wounds are treated directly in our clinics without waiting, which reduces the risk of infection and scarring.

Wound care and dressings

What does the consultation include?

  • Wound assessment
  • Identifying the treatment required
  • If stitches are required and you are unable to go to the emergency room, we will advise you if it is possible to use adhesive bandages to hold the wound closed.
  • Cleaning the wound
  • Application of dressings
  • If requested, instruction on how to change dressings yourself
  • Analysis of vaccination coverage and administration of tetanus vaccine as needed (additional costs)
  • Explanation of the treatment plan for follow-up
  • Option to purchase materials to redo the dressing yourself
  • Follow-up appointment to assess the wound and/or change the dressing

Removal of stitches or staples

What does the consultation include?

  • Wound assessment;
  • Cleaning the wound;
  • Removal of one staple or two stitches to start with;
  • If healing is good, removal of the remaining staples or stitches;
  • If necessary, apply diachylon dressings to prevent the wound from reopening.
  • Instructions for proper healing explained;
  • Follow-up appointment if necessary.
